Archive - '11 Carrickfergus Supercross

For those who don't know, Taylor's Avenue Football Stadium, is usually home to Carrick Rangers FC, recently promoted to the IFA Premier League following a championship winning campaign in 2010/11.

Following a fantastic season, Rangers recently secured funding to replace the current grass pitch with an all new 4G artificial pitch so the local Carrickfergus & District Motorcycle Club saw the opportunity to run Carrickfergus' first ever supercross on the old pitch.

After a limited number of weeks planning the club built a supercross track on the pitch full of doubles, tabletops and rhythm sections, s slight contrast from the usual two nets at either end of the pitch.

Crowds of over 1600 headed for an exciting night of racing. The weather couldn't have been better and while the track was a tad dusty it didn't slow the star filled lineup down in the slightest. The Expert Open class A Final was won by Jack Brunell, closely followed by Gordon Crockard and Tommy Merton while in the Expert U21 A Final, Michael McCammond came out on top ahead of the chasing pack. Head to Head racing is known to be rough at times and the Expert Head to Head final was just that with Jack Brunell crossing the line for the win after a coming together with Wayne Garrett at the half way stage. The much anticipated Expert Superfinal provided fast and furious racing to round of the evening with Wayne Garrett managing to hold off an impressive Gordon Crockard who finished the race right on the back wheel of Garrett.
