Visiting Welshman Ashley Greedy was in blistering form at the Carrickfergus & District Motorcycle Club promoted, Six Mile Water Grasstrack on held on Saturday past. Greedy took two victories from three starts in the MTA Expert Class which provided some scintillating racing including what will be some of the best eight laps of racing you’ll witness this year.

ASHLEY GREEDY - WINNER MTA EXPERT CLASS

In race one Greedy led the race from start to finish after a small slip cost Glenn McCormick too much time to make a challenge and a poor start had placed Drew Goudy a distant third. Greedy also took maximum points in race two once he had found a way past Goudy who clinched the holeshot and led for a portion of the race. It was a photo finish for second place though with Goudy reaching the line no more than half a wheels width ahead of a hard chasing McCormick.

Race three was without a doubt the best of the lot and it saw Goudy take the holeshot ahead of Greedy and McCormick. At just over half distance McCormick had squeezed under Greedy at paddock hairpin and begun to chase for the win. Goudy was really pushing at the front but after McCormick got a great drive out of the bottom corner with two to go, he was able to race around the outside of Goudy at the fast uphill sweeper to take his first win of the day. That gave Greedy the overall with McCormick second and Goudy third.

GLENN MCCORMICK - AGNEW RECOVERY / WATT MOTORCYCLES KTM

The Scarlett DIY EVO class also provided some great racing but it was Greedy who took the spoils after his closest competitor William Burgess crashed out in the first corner of race two. Unfortunately that was the end of Burgess’ day after taking a knock to the ribs in the crash but the veteran definitely would have been there or thereabouts had he stayed on. Trevor Calderwood on his pristine CZ grabbed second overall ahead of ‘Mad John’ Allen in third.

Alan Saunders came out on top in the fiercely contested Norman Watt Motorcycles Clubman MX1 races. Just five points separated the top three finishers but a point’s haul of sixty six was enough for Saunders to keep Graeme Campbell at bay in second and enduro focused Chris Brown in third.

Doagh’s own Paul Atkinson won the Semi Expert Class while the LJ’s Catering Clubman MX2 Class was won by Craig Sloan from Newtownabbey. Josh Cooper had an impressive day on his competitive racing debut when he raced to three victories in the Clubman Quad.

TREVOR CALDERWOOD - SCARLETT DIY EVO CLASS

A healthy crowd lined the spectator area for most of the day at Six Mile Water and most went home with a big smile on their face after a bumper 36 race programme was run in clockwork fashion. Some people might even have ended up with a sun tan, not something that many were expecting leading up to the event.

The club moved to thank all that supported the event and have already started planning for the next one on Tuesday 26th May (Youth Solo & Quad). The adults will have to wait slightly longer through with their next event not scheduled until Wednesday 10th June at the same venue.
