REPORT FROM ROUND TWO


Round two of the 2016 Carrick Grasstrack Championship took place on Wednesday 18th May at Dalway’s Bawn with the junior’s taking centre stage on the Tuesday night before. Heavy rainfall was experienced shortly before the juniors racing which made for muddy conditions but still a great turnout by a dedicated crowd to show their support. All 45 youth competitors displayed their talent to power through the mud contributing to a great atmosphere that was generated among competitors and spectators alike.

The adult race took place on the Wednesday 18th which brought about sun and perfect conditions. A fine evening brought a good turnout of competitors for the evenings event. The course was changed since the last race which brought new technical sections to make the event all the more challenging and interesting allowing riders to try their skill over the various range of laps provided. As usual with this type of event, the competitors were the stars and who won what race became secondary. A huge congratulations to all competitors for your achievements in the race so far and massive thank you to mass numbers spectators for coming along to show your support.

For the MTA Process Components Premier Class success in first place was taken by Ricky Watt with a total of 132 points. Well done to William Logan who followed in 2nd with 132 point and Ciaran Connolly who took 3rd place.

As the white flag flew in it was Paul Atkinson who led the way through the races in our Semi-Expert class followed closely by Cameron Turley and Dion Johnston.

There was lot of anticipation and enthusiasm among the spectators as Lynsey Haggan, William Eve and Ian McAllister battled to show tremendous sportsmanship displaying ambitious riding skills to kick off the first set of races. It was a close call for each competitor throughout the entire set of races. First place however was taken by Ian McAllister followed by William Eve in 2nd place and Lynsey Haggan in 3rd.

The Minibike class sponsored by Ernie Coates Motorcycles proved to be yet again to add a characteristic touch to the races. First place was taken by Phil Adair took first place followed by Paul Atkinson and Mark Boyd.

Both days of races were a hit and we are certainly looking forward to the oncoming final set of races next rounds scheduled for 31st May & 1st June. We look forward to seeing you there.
